If you want an anime that will make you roll on the floor laughing, Senyu is the one for you. I’ll be honest; when I watched the first episode I thought it would be some kid’s show, but without even noticing I finished watching all the episodes released. Well, it didn’t take very long, because an episode lasts only 5 minutes. I was really surprised, because I was expecting it to run the usual 20 minutes, and suddenly the credits are rolling.

You may be one of those fans that don’t especially target this kind of anime, or even avoid it, but let me tell you this: everything is so stupid that it is impossible not to laugh and hit “next episode”. You will be surprised by how much you will like it. This was actually my first abbreviated series of anime, and I still giggle as I am writing this and remembering some parts of it.

The plot is your standard RPG story line: a hero, in this series named Alba, sets on a journey alongside a royal soldier, to defeat a demon king. However, this anime takes it and makes it into something totally unexpected and funny.

My favorite character was Ros, the royal guard that is extremely sadistic and hurts the hero for his own satisfaction and then worries for him. All the characters are charged with stupid humor like this. I’m telling you; it is so stupid, that it is genius.

The animation fits perfectly with the atmosphere this show tries to create. Studio Ordet chose a style that is somewhat childish enough to make you laugh, and mature enough to make you want to watch it. To sum up, it is perfect for this kind of series.

Under the funny layer of jokes and parody, the plot is actually pretty good, and thickens as you go through the episodes. I am not going to ruin the series for you and tell you what I am talking about, but, as in every self-respecting plot, there are plot twists which make it even more interesting. Of course the atmosphere won’t change one bit, no matter the graveness of the situation.

This anime is definitely not a waste of time, so I highly recommend you watch it and drown yourself in laughter.  And don’t be disappointed if you run out of episodes to watch! The second season of this series has already started to make its appearance, and you will be able to watch Alba and his comrades through new adventures, new puns and new jokes!
