Anime like Shingeki no Kyojin (aka Attack on Titan) can really stress me out because of its sheer awesomeness! I needed a break from all the shounen anime marathon I’ve been having. I needed a light shoujo anime to keep me calm and relaxed. I needed a girly show to make fun of! That girly show had characters who posed in very erotic positions at the closing credits.
So, this anime is called Kamigami no Asobi and it’s about eight gods who’re stuck in a school for gods to learn about humans. The school was created by Zeus because he feels these eight gods (Apollon, Hades, Loki, Balder, Thor, Tsukito, Takeru, Dionysus) don’t understand the humans enough. He recruits Kusanagi Yui to help educate the gods about humans until they graduate.
The show is pretty shallow with a lot of stupid reasons to back up stupid situations. The characters are stereotypical, but that should be expected from shoujo anime like this. You’ve got your emo, psychopath, junkie, prankster, hothead, and sleep-deprived hot guys, whose heads are turning because some flat-chested, goody-two shoes is saying the right lines to make these guys’ hearts flip.
I don’t know how many times I rolled my eyes or made gagging noises, but this anime can really make my skin crawl. The guys act like they’re teenage girls when they’re supposed to be gods, whose legends speak of them as great, magnificent creatures. The protagonist, Kusanagi Yui, has no real presence or purpose in the show. She’s just some random girl chosen by this magic sword and bullied by Zeus into helping him educate the gods learn about humans.
Though the show is infested with cheesy lines that can make anyone puke and sparkles that rivals with Edward Cullen’s disco ball body, Kamigami no Asobi is a stress reliever. I just concentrate all of my anger and worries on this tacky show and I get a good night’s rest.
Hey, sometimes we need something stupid to forget our problems.
