I chanced upon this anime called Magi: Sinbad no Bouken—it’s an OVA, and its next episode will be released on August 2014.

tumblr_n4vuc9gXfw1qmrg30o1_1280When I hear Sinbad’s name I imagine an Arabian sailor, who’s had countless adventures in the sea. The Sinbad in Magi: Sinbad no Bouken is slightly similar to the original Sinbad, only he has better hair. He also seems to possess the kind of magic that’ll make him king.

After researching, I’ve learned that this is just a spin-off/prologue of Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic. Magi: Sinbad no Bouken isn’t the main series, but just tells the random adventures Sinbad has.

Anyway, the story starts with a dungeon that couldn’t be conquered and said to hold something powerful in it. Next, it shows the birth of Sinbad; and in some weird sense it reminds me of the birth of Christ. Really, while watching the birth scene Jesus Christ is born! keeps screaming in my head. Later, as the story progresses, we learn that the army that’s trying to conquer the dungeon is recruiting and anyone who dares escape the army will be punished.  The episode ends with Sinbad entering the dungeon.

Nothing much happens on the episode. That’s to be expected since it’s just an introductory episode. But I have mixed feelings for this anime. It just feels strange and I don’t know if I should like the hero when his long violet hair keeps swaying with the wind like he’s in a shampoo commercial. But it’s an OVA anyone should keep an eye on. I’m expecting a lot of fight scenes and shouting.
