Top 5 must-read mangas
There are a lot of very good mangas that are not as popular as they should be and I just can’t stand this. So, with this in mind, I’m going to inform you about 5 of my favorite mangas ever. Some of them are well known, and some of them are… well… less well known.
Anyway, let’s start from number 5 and work our way down to number 1:
This is a Japanese manga series written by Jun’ya Inoue and is one of my favorites thanks to the feeling of “everything goes” that it gives off. The story starts with 22 year old Ryota, not so good with
real life, but an expert in the online game called Btooom!. One day, he wakes up on a tropical island, having no memory of how he got there. Searching for help, Ryota sees someone and calls for help. He finds out that it was a bad idea, as the stranger throws a bomb at him. After a while, he realizes the he is in a real-life version of Btooom!, and he has to go through life or death fights to have a chance at surviving. The story is filled with romance, tragedy and action and it earns a place in my top 5.
4. Battle Royale
This is another survival manga series written by Koushun Takami and illustrated by Masayuki Taguchi. If you liked The hunger games, then you will love Battle Royale. But it’s stupid to compare the two, because this manga is way better. The story is about a future where random Junior High classes are chosen to fight each other on an island for 3 days, until only one of them survives. This manga really makes you feel the intensity and feelings one would experience when needed to kill a friend/girlfriend. This manga is known for its gore and ecchi scenes that show the human survival instinct in all its glory.
3. Sun-ken Rock
This is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Boichi. The plot revolves around a guy named Ken, who is in love with a girl called Yumin. Knowing that Yumin was in the police force, he drops out of school, moves to Korea, all this to be by her side. Things don’t go his way, and he ends up being unemployed and with no money. His life changes when he saves an old man from a gang and thus, getting recruited to be the head of a local gang led by Tae-Soo Park. This is a very nice mixture of comedy, romance and action and the graphics are just amazing. By the way you should know that the ecchi scenes do not miss!
Also known as Wolf Guy: Ōkami no Monshō, this manga has been released in twelve volumes by Akita Shoten. This is where you will find a real werewolf. A beast that is at its strongest on the full moon- this is what Akira Inugami really is. Akira transfers to Hakutoku Middle School, and his story begins with him meeting his teacher, Miss Aoshika, while a whole gang of bikers tries to lynch him. They beat him to death and then run him over with a car, killing him. Or that is what the gang thought. While the gang robes his pokets, Miss Aoshika faints, and whenshe wakes up she finds all the gang members dead around her, and soon after, he gets escorted home by the police. A romance will develop between student and teacher and things will only get more and more interesting. I highly recommend you watch it!
My number one favorite manga was, is and will be Akumetsu. This is pure awesomeness. The story is about a guy named Shou that kills dirty politicians, and then kills himself after every kill. That’s right, somehow he keeps coming back after he blows up his head using a bomb hidden in a mask that he wears. That’s it! I’m not telling you anymore, because this is one manga that you should totally discover step by step, with no spoilers whatsoever. You should expect gore and some ecchi scenes and a lot of sweet, sweet revenge. You will love it!
This is my top 5 must-read mangas list and I really hope you will give them a try. I am sure that you will get hooked to them after the very first pages, and I hope that you will think of this article and visit me next time you want to know something awesome about anime/manga. Cheers!
